Employee Relations
According to Armstrong (2009), way of dealing employers and employees individually or through their trade unions define as employee relations. HR Policies, code of ethics, Employee rights & policy documents, Union agreements are implemented to maintain this relationship.
Following Four approaches have been identified by relating of Industrial Relations Services (1994),
1. Adversarial: - Company decides the requirement and employees have to act open it.
2. Traditional: - Good day-to-day working relationship but management proposes.
3. Partnership: - The organization involves employees in the drawing up and execution of organization policies, but retains the right to manage.
4. Power sharing: - Employees are involved in both day-to-day and strategic decision making.
As per Dessler (2013), ethical behavior at work place is very essential to maintain employee relations and further he described that the ethic reflects the principles of conduct governing an individual or a group.
Importance of employee relationship
The employer – employee relationship is vital and it is very important to growth of Company not only for retaining staff. That’s why Companies do not hesitate to invest to develop this connection for any value of cost (Bahreini, 2017).
Bahreini (2017) also expressed, this mainly build on a trust and as the 2016 Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement Report from the SHRM found, 55% of the nearly 600 employees surveyed said trust between employees and management is very important to their job satisfaction.
The legal consultants say that sexual harassment cases more than doubled during 1991 and 2000 and as a result employers complain they have no time to work on product and service other than involving employee regulations. No longer had mantra called “People are our greatest asset.” Instead, they claim “People are our greatest liability” (Drucker, 2002).
Four Tips for Improving Employer-Employee Relationships through Technology (Bahreini, 2017)
1. Track Goals With Performance Analytics – Introduce real time progress reports
2. Communicate Better Via Video – provide more details from managers
3. Provide Training On Demand In The Cloud – Employers able to use web based training activities
4. Prioritize With Digital Checklists – Paper less environment
Based on above we can conclude future on employee relations on global context by power sharing approach through technology.
